8 and a 1/2 Restaurant
The restaurant is tucked under the iconic 1887 “Depencier House,” which was moved to the current location in 1912. Rumours are the Depencier House was saved because it was a prominent brothel when Mount Pleasant was the first suburb in Vancouver. It became famous again in 1938 when Campbell Munro started creating and selling his hand dipped chocolates which he continued to do until 2004.
In 2009 a group of young industry professionals saw this space as a perfect opportunity to open a restaurant for them. A place that’s fun and welcoming. Somewhere that serves locally sourced food at a reasonable price. A divergence from the current trend of franchise, pre-packaged restaurants. One with an approachable wine list. An intimate place to have parties, events, or a first date.
Nice cozy restaurant. Good Mac and cheese. Tuna salad was just ok. Would like to try one of the pizzas next time!
