Both Ways Cafe
Since 1990 Owner Dick Wall has tried to keep it basic, simple and welcoming. With quality food and a comfy setting, it is a place for the neighborhood to gather. Originally started on the ferry walkway between Western and the ferry docks on pier 52, Both Ways Cafe embarked on a long tradition of quality baked goods, and innovative but basic breakfast and lunch fare. After taking over the maritime bank space in 1996 Both Ways established themselves as a go-to lunch hot spot for grab and go or sit down workers and commuters. In 1998 Both Ways lost their lease and stored their goods until opening up again on S. Genesee St. in June of 2000. It was a tough call to keep the same name since most patrons were no longer commuting “both ways”, but Dick decided to keep it. To this day people are perplexed as ever and the question is often asked “why do you call yourselves Both Ways Cafe?” Some days we have an answer and some days we don’t. So come on down, give us a try and let us know. Maybe you have the answer!
